Talanoa is an inbox app that organizes your emails like your favorite messaging apps
Talanoa – A calmer, more human way to handle email Talanoa is a new kind of email client that organizes your inbox by people instead of threads. Inspired by modern messaging apps, Talanoa gives you a clean, calm view of your conversations so you can instantly see who needs your attention without drowning in a chronological list of noise. The Problem Email hasn’t evolved in decades. Most clients still show a single endless stream of messages where important conversations are buried under newsletters, promos, updates, and spam. People lose track, miss key messages, and feel constant pressure to chase "Inbox Zero." What Talanoa Does Differently Talanoa flips the inbox on its head. Instead of sorting by time, it groups your emails by sender, just like your favorite messaging apps. It supports Gmail, Outlook, and any IMAP/SMTP inbox, and everything runs locally on your device. No servers, no data collection, fully private. Talanoa also adds small but powerful tools like: - Turning emails into tasks - Multi-account switching - One-click cleaning for low-value messages Who It's For Talanoa is built for people who hate email, makers, founders, freelancers, operators, and anyone juggling multiple inboxes. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by threads, lost in noise, or tired of managing labels and folders, Talanoa was designed for you. Validation Story Talanoa began as a simple idea in 2014: "What if email behaved like Slack?" I built the first prototype in late 2024 and launched a private beta in March 2025, onboarding users one by one to understand their real behavior. The result: - 250+ users tested the product - Dozens of feature requests shaped the roadmap - 14 early paying customers within months - And, surprisingly, people started saying something rare for email: "I actually enjoy opening my inbox now." This feedback confirmed the hypothesis: email doesn’t need more AI, more labels, or more shortcuts, it needs to feel human again.
